Northern California weather | Rain, snow and gusty winds Sunday

Rain and snow showers will continue on and off on Sunday, along with gusty south winds.

KCRA 3's weather team is calling Sunday, Monday and Tuesday weather Impact Days because of the possible impacts on travel and outdoor activities.

Snow levels will range from 5,000 feet to 7,000 feet Sunday and the heaviest rain will primarily be in the morning, becoming more scattered in the afternoon.

Winds could gust up to 40 mph across the region with stronger gusts at Sierra peaks.

Snow levels will fall to around 5,000 feet Monday and could fall as low as 3,000 feet on Tuesday as cool air pushes in.

Sierra passes could see 1-3 feet of snowfall by Tuesday evening, with some areas seeing as much as 4 feet of new snow.

The valley could see up to 0.75 inches of rainfall by Tuesday evening, with the Foothills seeing up to 2 inches.

Lingering showers are possible Wednesday and Thursday, but sunshine and 70s return for Friday and Saturday in the Valley.

11:30 a.m.: Sierra chain controls were lifted on Interstate 80.

8:20 a.m: Chain controls were in effect on parts of Interstate 80.
